Special Olympics are looking to establish a Young Athlete club in Dundalk.
The main goal of the Young Athletes program is to develop a recreational sports club tailored for children between the ages of 4 and 12 with intellectual disabilities. Our focus is on creating an environment that is familiar, supportive, and most importantly…fun, providing each participant with the opportunity to thrive.
To make this initiative a success, we need vibrant and passionate individuals to come on board as Activity Leaders to deliver the sessions, and as general volunteers to assist with the activities.
While the Activity Leader should have a keen interest in the development of children through sport, for general volunteers, a sports background is not required. Instead, we highly value enthusiasm and a supportive attitude.
We kindly request you share this email with your members. Help us to make this much needed resource a reality.
Volunteer Commitment:
The Young Athlete sessions will run every Saturday morning from 11 am – 12pm, starting from mid-April, at the Dundalk Sports Centre, A91 X36T.
We are asking for a commitment of just one hour a week to assist in the development of the club.
This commitment will make a significant impact on creating a positive and supportive environment for children with intellectual disabilities.
Volunteers are required to register with Special Olympics, which includes completing Garda vetting and a safeguarding course. The Activity Leader will be required to work towards completing a Coaching Children qualification.
