The minors welcomed Naomh Fionnbarra as their final opponents in the group stages of the minor league. Gers knew that nothing less than a win would keep them in the running for the finals.
The game started with home side on attack but early goaling opportunities were denied by Finbarrs keeper.
The first quarter was tight with both teams nabbing a goal and a point. Noah Lauaki netted following a strong individual run whilst Sean McKenna picked up a point.
Finbarr's took the initiative in the second quarter. They goaled early and added on another 5 points to a single reply from Begley to
move into a commanding lead. It couid have been worse but for a great save by Evyn in goals. The half closed with three much needed points courtesy of McKenna, Lynch (free) and Soraghan.
This left a half time score of Finbarr's 2-06 vs Geraldines 1-5
Second half saw the welcome entry of Cian Spaight into the game. His presence was felt immediately with a well taken solo goal. This was sandwiched with a good point from McKenna and a great solo goal from Soraghan . Finbarr's could only add a point in this period.
Gers had to manage the game through to the final quarter. With points from Soraghan (delightful through ball from Lauaki ) and frees from Spaight (2) and Lynch matching the Finbarrs response the Ger's scrambled over the finishing line with a two point victory.
Despite letting in two goals all defenders played their part in minimising scoring chances. With only 14 aside a lot of space had to be covered and Finbarrs had a number of classy forwards. Special mention to our debutant Mark Tyrell who had a fine controlled game from No 6.
Forwards and midfield gelled well together when moving the ball quickly. It was good for Jamie Soraghan and Aodhan Gibbons to get more mileage into their legs following injuries
All in all a good result with various areas still to be worked upon in time for the Championship.
