Gers 1-10 St Brides 0-8

Geraldines Senior Mens Team started the 2019 season in the perfect way with a convincing victory over local rivals St Brides. The game was only on 30 seconds when Paddy Geoghegan scored the Gers first competitive point of 2019. Then Dara Hamill and Josh Arrowsmith both pointed on the 5th and 7th minutes to increase the Gers lead to 3 points to no score. St Brides got off the mark on the 12th minute with 2 quick scores. Once again the Gers 40 yards man, Dara Hamill popped up with another point to make it a 2 point game. 20 minutes into the first half St Brides made it a one point game. Just before man of the moment Dara Hamill pointed for the 3rd time in the first half, Glen Trainor was replaced by former Louth Minor Ben Mooney. On the stroke of half-time both teams exchanged points with Dara Hamill getting his 4th of the half and the knockbridge men tapping over for their 4th point of the game. At half time the Gers lead on a scoreline of 0-6 to 0-4.

Starting the second half it didn’t take long for the Gers to increase their lead when Neil Jones was fouled for referee Brian Brady to give a penalty. Young Jones had the ball in his hands only for the management team to tell Dara Hamill to take it and he duly obliged. This left it 1-6 to 0-4. St Brides soon responded with a point but then Paddy Geoghegan and Dara Hamill scored 2 points to increase the Gers lead. St Brides got another point on the 46 minute but only for Matt Corcoran to score a lovely point with outside of the foot after good play by the Gers. Niall Craven the made his return coming on a sub for Neil Jones. On 52nd minute Fearghal McDonald finished the Gers scoring for the night with a point. St Brides scored 2 points both on 55th minute and 56th minute with no more scores from either side for the remainder of the game. This left the final score at 1-10 to 8 points. Eamonn Dunne then made a triple substitution with Andy Traynor, Anthony Lines and John Rogers coming on for Paddy Geoghegan, Shane Thornton and Conor McGowan. Eamonn Dunne’s will continue the Sheelan Cup with a home match against Dundalk Young Irelands this Saturday.
