Gers 5-10 Kilkerley Emmets 2-13

Our Senior Men commenced their 2021 season with a 6 point win over Kilkerley Emmets. Within 30 seconds Jim McEneaney had the ball in the opposition net. Jim followed up his goal with a point in the first minute. In the first 5 minutes, the Gers had a 4 point advantage after a spectacular long range curling point by Jim McEneaney.
The two teams traded points until the 13th minute when a Shane Rogers goal extended the Gers lead after great fielding by Beanón Corrigan in midfield to start the move. In the first 20 minutes, we led by a scoreline of 2-5 to 3 points.
Kilkerley finished the 1st half stronger scoring 1-6 in between another Shane Rogers goal. This left 2 points between the sides as they headed for halftime.
A 2nd goal from Kilkerley in the opening minutes of the 2nd half gave them a 1 point advantage. However, patience play by the Gers led to our 4th goal of the match coming from the boot of Shane O’Hanlon. The two teams traded points for the next 10 minutes, leaving 3 points between the sides and thrilling finale in store.
2 quick-fire points from Kilkerley put the minimum between the sides. Our boys rallied and finished the game the strongest. We scored 1-2 in the closing moments, 2 excellent points from Shane O’Hanlon and Shaun Callan which followed by Shane Rogers 3rd goal and a hat trick.
