In a tale of two halves the Gers travelled a few minutes down the road to McCluskey park to once again meet St Josephs on Saturday afternoon. Captained by Jack Kavanagh the lads played into a stiff breeze in the first half. The home side took advantage of the strong wind to build up an early lead. The boys worked hard but final passes just didn’t land as we struggled to score and contain the Joes point scoring. The home side led 0:10 to 0:02 at the break.
With a bit of reorganisation at half time, the breeze at their backs and an inspirational goal from Seán Spaight a different tone was set as the second half opened. The Gers midfield took control of the game feeding ball to the forwards who began to click with a series of Sean Spaight goals and points turning the game.
Not to be taken for granted the Joes found space and punished with clinically taken goals demonstrating that they remained a threat.
Seán went on to score a total of 6:05. The hard working Aaron O’Donoghue, Ross Norton, Joe Lynch and Roan Norton also contributed to the score to close out an impressive turnaround.
There was also some great teamwork again from James Scanlon, Daniel Hanna, Jack Kavanagh, Seán Garvey and Danny de Lása.
Thanks to Simon Ball and u13s Tim Varshutski, Ryan Mulholland and Conor Ball for their support at short notice when it looked like the Gers would be down numbers. Final score 3:10 to 6:10
