U16 Division 1 Semi Final Geraldines vs Baile Talún

The semifinal was a repeat pairing of Round 2 in the league which Baile Talún decisively came out on top. The game was very entertaining in the opening half with both teams kicking some fine scores.

Baile Talún to their credit deserved their 1-10 to 1-6 lead at the break as they scored 1-3 in the last moments of the half without reply.

The Gers were ahead after 25 minutes with some excellent points coming from man of the match Cian Spaight and the cultured left boot of Cillian Lynch. Aodhán Gibbons was also on hand to slot home a great team goal from close range.

Defensively the courageous Mal Madine made the play of the half with a full-length block denying a certain goal-scoring opportunity.

Despite conceding the first three scores of the second half the lads displayed great resilience scoring 1-10 without reply for the remainder of the match.

The classy Finn Madine and Oliver Begley won vital ball around the midfield which gave the lads a great platform for attack.

The score of the half was by the powerful Cormac Broe who broke from centre back to kick an inspirational point.

Collectively the team done well, David Clune epitomised this with his hard work and ability to provide the right pass, especially to Maciek Dobros who kicked a fine score off his weaker left foot.

Substitutes Seán Spaight and Thomas Quinn Stuttard also played an instrumental role as Seán scored two fantastic points and Thomas had a pivotal interception to thwart a Baile Talún attack.
