The Geraldines secured their first win of the season in a rescheduled first round match of the Paddy Sheehan Cup with a late victory over Saint Kevins in Haggardstown on Thursday.

The first half saw the two sides exchange scores before the Kevins took a three-point lead going into the later stages of the half in what was a low-scoring contest with a very heavy wind playing havoc on playing conditions.

At the end of the first half, Saint Kevins scored a goal right on the 30th-minute mark to give the away side a five-point lead at halftime.

HALFTIME: Geraldines 0-04 vs St. Kevin’s 1-06

The second half was much more open with St. Kevins, scoring after two minutes into the second period with another goal. This was followed up with an exchange of scores from Shane Rogers and the Kevins before the away side added a third goal on the evening on 38 minutes, Jim McEneaney replied with a fine point before Brian Cafferty got a goal to restore some parity to the scoreline and Shane Rogers would continue his rich vein of form of scoring a crucial point before Jack Traynor scored a fine score to bring the game to six points.

Shane Rogers scored the Geraldines second goal of the evening before St Kevins restored a four-point lead. Jim McEneaney then scored a goal with three minutes to go and that was followed up with a Shane Rogers score to bring the game to just two points. Michael Rogers would then score another Geraldines goal in the dying seconds to put the home side in the lead for the first time in the game. Shane Rogers finished off the scoring with a fine point against the wind to secure the win for the Geraldines.
