Round 1: Subsidiary Minor League vs O’Connells /Stabannon/Dunleer/John Mitchell’s
The Geraldines minors started their season against the combination side in what was a wet and windy evening for football.
Aided by a stiff breeze the Geraldines worked a great team goal in the first minute which was blasted to the net by midfielder Finn Madine. The Geraldines worked some excellent scores in the first half, Owen McGahon elected to point from close range after breaking through the defence and Cillian Lynch rifled home a second goal while also adding some well-taken points.
Despite the wind advantage, the Geraldines left some chances behind them and only went in at the break 2-4 vs 1-5 ahead.
Defensively Shea Neary and Mal Madine broke out with purpose always finding their intended target while Suraj Akal and Aswanth Sivarman intercepted vital balls.
It was a difficult second half for our lads who registered two scores, the first by Oliver Begley from a distance and a well-dispatched free from Cillian Lynch.
The combination side to their credit kicked some fine scores and pulled away from the Gers in the last few moments.
Thanks to referee Shane Russell for officiating, next up for the minors Is Naomh Finbarra next Thursday at home at 6:00 pm
