The Girls had a great performance at the weekend taking part in a 32 team tournament. Despite the weather on the day the Gers U13 Girls put their best foot forward in playing some fantastic football. As the tournament progressed the girls improved with every game.
We had three tough group games against St.Brigids from Antrim, Newtown Blues, and Mullaghbrack from Armagh (whose management commended the girls for being the toughest team they faced in the competition and praised the skillful play by the Gers).
Into the quarter finals and a very tight fixture against Cooley, the Gers managed to win the game by 2points.
After that we qualified for the semi-final and the girls fifth match of the day. We played a very good Eire Óg team from Carlow. At half time Eire Óg led by 5 points and extended that further at the start of the second but then the Girls played brilliantly to finish the game level and send the match to extra time. However Eire Óg finished strongly to wrap up the game.
Thanks to the girls and the parents for their support on the day. Well done to Gerry Fearon and Lisa and their team on running a very good event. I think the girls enjoyed themselves and can be very happy with their play.
