Boys minor team started their league campaign with a narrow loss to St Pats in Lordship.
The first half went to plan with great energy and smart play from the entire team. The Gers led by Cormac Broe defended as a team and forced multiple turnovers and wides, keeping a strong St Pat’s team to just 2 points, whilst Sean McKenna (2) and Machiek Dodros (3) combined to score 5 points to put Gers ahead at half time.
The Pats came out for the second half with real purpose and scored 1-1 within the first 10 minutes to get ahead for the first time in the match. But the Gers dug in and points from man of the match, Machiek Dobros, Conor Witmarsh and an impressive long-range free from Ralph Tinsley got them back in front.
The teams exchanged scores in a nip-and-tuck game with Ralph Tinley and Noah Lauaki scoring fine points for the Gers. The game was end to end as both teams tried to pull in front. The Gers defensive efforts was particularly impressive from Shea Neary, Cormac Broe and Mal Madine.
All level with 8 minutes to go the Gers couldn’t find themselves the scoring opportunities to go home with a win. A last-minute goal from Pat’s gave the scoreline a more comfortable look in an even contest.
Final Score:
Pats 2-9 Gers 0-10
M Dobros 0-4
S McKenna 0-2
R Tinsley 0-2
C Whitmarsh 0-1
N Lauaki 0-1
The Gers will welcome back some players for the next week and will look to deliver an improved performance and result in their next match against Baile Talun at home on Monday 1st July at 8pm
