The Geraldines Boy’s opened their 2025 campaign with their first league match against St. Oliver Plunkett’s after been promoted to Division One at home in McGeough park on Wednesday night.

The Plunkett’s got the first score of the game but the Geraldines replied with a with score when quick thinking Tom Johnston lay off short free to Danny Rochford who took his point well.  Plunkett’s then took another couple of scores to go two ahead. But this was short lived as Aidan Soraghan took off from midfield after winning the kickout to score a magnificent goal and the Gers knock over another point.

The next 10 minutes saw each team fighting very hard to win their own ball with some great tackling and pressure from both teams especially the back 6 for the Gers in Burke twins, Ben King, Darragh O’Neill, Danny Rochford and Niall Fennessy. However, the Plunkett’s were starting to get on top and were making many chances and got 3 quick goals and a couple of points. This should have been a lot more only for Gers GK Alex Gray pulling off some super saves.

Geraldines got back up the field and pull a goal back with some great work from Aidan Soraghan to lay off the ball to Ronan Henry to palm into the net and score another point before the half-time whistle. Leaving it 3-05 to 2-03 at half-time. Unfortunately, the Gers started slowly in the 2nd half and conceded a couple of goals and another 2 points before they woke up for the 2nd half. But even after conceding this the Gers did not lay down and came fighting back to get into game.

With Soraghan getting another great goal, follow up with another 3 goals from Aran Hoey, Harry Smith and Ronan Henry. A  couple of points from Tom Johnston. This all help from the attacking half forwards of Harry, James and Oisin. However, Plunkett’s broke down the field again and got a couple of points themselves to go back into 2-point lead. As time was running out the Gers, they got a few more chances to score but could only manage another point with the Plunkett’s GK pulling off some last ditch saves. Final score leaving it with a one-point win for the Plunkett’s 5-09 to 6-05.

It was a great effort by all the players, as the players said after the game, we don’t lose we learn. The U14s Management and players would like to thank their sponsor T.J. Briody with the new set of Jersey’s worn on the night.

The squad for the night were Alex Gray, Oran Burke, Rian Burke, Ben King, Danny Rochford, Darragh O’Neill, Niall Fennessy, Aidan Soraghan, Tom Johnson, Oisin McKevitt, Harry Smith, James Durnin, Richard Whately, Ronan Henry, Logon McGahon, Zach Healy, Aran Hoey, Daithi Duggan, Alex Gill.
