U14 B Shield Final
In an enthralling game of football on Saturday the U14 Gers team performed exceptionally. The game was a wonderful battle throughout. We carved and created some openings on the day, most of which we executed brilliantly. A lot of this game was played between the two 45s, as both teams managed to break up attacks and turn over possession. Our defense grew in stature especially in the last 20 minutes where they repelled attack after attack. They were led by our captain on the day Holly Mc, and flanked by Kayla, Lainey, Chantelle, and the superb Laura. Eabha O'Shea's fielding and passing were a joy. Holly T's reading of the game and interceptions were fabulous. But all the defenders including Ella, Grace, and Chelsea were great.
Both keepers were super. The one-handed save by Ava O'Brien tipping a top-corner shot over the bar was amazing. Thanks to the bench support given by Ellie, Alannah, Laura, and Sophia that kept the team's spirit high. Thanks to the messages from Maisie and Freya beforehand. They were inspirational and a massive boost to the squad. Thanks too to St. Kevins for hosting the final. Despite the wonderful play it was O'Raghallaighs/Oliver Plunketts that won out. Congratulations to them.
For the match itself, we started off well with a goal by Sadhbh Sheelan in the top corner. We followed that up with another goal by Lucy Begley after a brilliant through ball by Grace McEvoy. Then the opposition had a strong finish to the half with some goals and points. But on the stroke of half-time Sadhbh Sheelan and Sadhbh Greene combined fabulously off a '45 with a couple of one-two's before the latter's shot nestled in the top corner. Half-time 4-00 to 3-03
At the start of the second half the opposition began well without getting the scores, as our defense set the tone. Then Lauren, Eabha, and Yelena got a grip in the middle to turn it in our favour. And they set up a move that led to Lucy getting a goal. As the team started to tire Erin, Aine, and Dearbhaile were sent on to inject some energy and they combined wonderfully that led to an awesome goal by Erin. At the end with only a minute remaining the opposition got the breakthrough goal to cement their win. Final score 6-00 to 5-05
We are immensely proud of the girls and what they have accomplished this season. Thanks to all the players who contributed to the league and championship campaigns including Mai, Lucy K, Tara, Pearl, Aoibhe, Aria, Alejandra, Emma, Alice, Leyla, and Ivana.
