Gers 0-8 St. Mochtas 1-07
Paddy Sheelan ¼ Final
Venue: Darver
12th March 2019
In very extreme weather conditions, our Senior mens team and St. Mochtas played out a very intriguing game. With the Gers playing into the wind the first half, Paddy Geoghegan started the scoring for us. Then the Louth village team went and scored 1-3 without reply. Stephen Reidy roamed up the field from centre half and with the use of the wind, got the Gers 2nd and final score of the 1st half. St. Mochtas finished the 1st half the brighter and kicked two scores to make it 1-5 to 0-2 points as the referee blew for half time.
Half time score Gers 0-2 St Mochtas 1-5
After the 15 minutes half time break and with some Gers supporters looking like the White Walkers from Game of Thrones, the second half started. This was definitely a game of 2 halves as the Gers started by getting two scores from full forward Dara Hamill. This left 4 between the teams but at the halfway stage of the second half St. Mochtas scored a vital point making it 1-6 to 0-4 points. Once again Dara Hamill was on form and reduced St. Mochtas lead to 2 points with 5 minutes to play. Ever busy on the half forward line Josh Arrowsmith scored a point to make it a 1 point game and set up an exciting finish. With the Gers pushing for the equaliser, St. Mochtas moved the ball nicely up the field and finished off with a point which was the all important score to put them in the semi final.
