Gers Senior Mens got off to the perfect start in their 1st league game against O’Raghallaighs on Tuesday night. Our county stars Jim McEneaney and James Craven had the Gers leading 2-1 to no score in the first 5 minutes. O’Raghallaighs fired back with a goal into the bottom corner on the 10th minute. . The next 10 minutes the Gers and O’Raghallaighs exchanged points, 2 from frees by Jim and Dara Hamill from play in between pointed frees the O’Raghallaighs. During this period Sean Thornton received a black card (controversial?) and was replaced by Conor McGowan. The Gers dominated the last 10 minutes of the half with points from Conor McGowan, Conor Rafferty, Jim McEneaney and two from Josh Arrowsmith to finish the 1st half.

Halftime score was 2-10 to 1-3.

Dara Hamill got the Gers going again the 2nd half with a point from play  and that was followed up by Paul ‘Smooch' Clarke surprisingly scoring a point. O’Raghallaighs stopped the flow of play by scoring a point from play leaving it 2-12 to 1-4 to the Gers. The Gers continued to add to the scoreboard with another county star, Dan Corcoran, adding to the tally from fullback after great work from him and Gareth Neacy. The score of the game was next when Jim McEneaney hit a beauty from just inside the 45 with the outside of his right boot. O’Raghallaighs scored a penalty and a point from play to the reduce the deficit. The Gers finished the game out strongly with points from Conor Rafferty, Conor McGowan, Feidlim Joyce and Ben Mooney.

A good start to the league campaign for Eamonn Dunne's men. Next up is a trip to the reigning county champions Newton Blues on Sunday.
