Gers 4-14 Clan Na Gael 0-8
Division 1 Round 2
14th April 2019
Our Senior Mens continued their 100% start to the league campaign with victory against the Clans. Paul Finnegan had thrown the ball in and with 30 seconds the Clans had the ball over the bar. Jim McEneaney levelled things up with a free. Then in the 6th minute good work from the Gers and a hand pass across the square saw Dara Hamill palm the ball into the net. The Clans fired over 2 quick points to make a 1 point game with 10 minutes gone. The Gers scored 5 unanswered points, the first coming from Fearghal McDonald, 3 from Jim McEneaney and one from Gareth Neacy. This left 6 points between the teams with 5 minutes to go before. The Clans rallied with 3 points which also cut the deficit and made a 3 point game.
Halftime score: Gers 1-6 Clan Na Gael 0-6
Gers really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck in the 2nd half. A 2nd point from captain Jim McEneaney got the Gers going. Our roaming halfback Fearghal McDonald got his 2nd point of the day and another Jim McEneaney free stretched their lead back to 6. Then some great football from the Gers ended up in Feidlim Joyce’s hand and he finished it into the net. A point and superbly finished goal from Jim McEneaney put 13 points between the teams. A bit of pushing between both teams had the game a bit stop start midway through the 2nd half. The Clans registered their 1st score of the second half on 42nd minute. Another McEneaney point and then a bit of magic from McEneaney put Glen Trainor in for the Gers 4th goal. The last 5 minutes saw points from Jim and Dara Hamill (2) with the Clans getting a point in the last minute. Gers running out with an 18 point victory at the Ecco Road venue.
