A dream occasion for our U8s unfolded in Croke Park on Sunday April 14th 2019. Beginning with an early 8am start from the clubhouse 26 excited boys with their coaches and parents travelled to participate in the Leinster GAA Croke Park Activity Day. A cold and biting wind did nothing to dampen the joy and unbridled enthusiasm of all - players, parents, coaches. From preparation in dressing room under the Cusack Stand, to running out onto the pitch through the tunnel and ultimately to play football on the famous Croke Park pitch truly was a thrilling experience for these young boys of Geraldines GFC.
Our two teams fielded against two very strong teams from the County Meath club of St Ultans/Cortown Gaels. Ironically, both clubs donned the colours of Green and White! Our boys played with commitment and courage but above all represented their club with pride and honour. We were delighted that everyone got a real opportunity to cross the white line and show their skills on the hallowed turf of this famous stadium.
After the game the boys had the glorious opportunity to run across the pitch and climb the steps of the famous Hogan Stand for a simulated presentation of the cup! After the game all visited Croke Park GAA museum to taste the action of the popular Interactive Games Zone and to learn of the unique story of Gaelic games from ancient times to the present day. Sitting in the Hogan Stand dressing room was even a thrill for the elders among us and for the young boys offered the hope that one day they will be back! Thanks to the many parents and families who travelled to join in this memorable day. Who knows but maybe one day these young players will return to wear the Green and White of Geraldines GFC or the Red and White of Louth!
Such stuff as dreams are made on...."
