It was Friday night lights when our Senior Mens took on local rivals St. Brides in Haggardstown. Brides got off to a flyer with the first two scores of the game. Jim McEneaney got the Gers first score of the game on the 7th minute. Brides responded with another point to have them up by 2. Gers levelled things up with points from Dara Hamill and Josh Arrowsmith. Half ways through the 1st half the Brides took the lead again but the Gers quickly responded to level up the game. Then Jim McEneaney got his 2nd point if the game put the Gers in the lead for the first time. A bit of magic from Dara Hamill saw him score a beauty from the sideline to open a 2 point lead for the home team. Brides got the next score of the match with 10 minutes remaining in the 1st half. Gers worked the ball up the field from Sean McEneaney’s kick out and then the ball to wing half Gareth Neacy who buried it into the net. The two sides exchanged points in injury time with Jim McEneaney scoring a free to leave 4 between the sides at halftime.

Gers picked up where they left off in the first half with 2 points in the space of 2 minutes from Dara Hamill and Feidhelm Joyce. Brides scored the next point to reduce the lead to 5 points. 5 minutes into the 2nd half Gers increased their lead with a Stephen Reidy goal which opened the Gers lead to 8. 2 more points from the Gers, one from Dara Hamill and another customary score from Fearghal ‘Chippy' McDonald, had the Gers cruising. Gers 3rd goal of the game came from Josh Arrowsmith who sweetly nestled the ball into the top corner after finding himself in acres of space in front of goal. The Brides got a point straight after the goal but Dara Hamill responded with a beauty over his shoulder. Another Jim McEneaney pointed free halfway through the 2nd half made it a 14 point game. Brides got their goal straight after with a nice finish. Referee Paul Finnegan had his hands full in the 2nd half with small tussles happening between both rivals. Gers finished the stronger of the sides with 2 scores coming Jim McEneaney and Conor Rafferty. Gers maintain their 100% record and prepare to play St. Mary’s in Ardee next Friday.
