Gers 1-10 Cooley 0-12
Division 1 Round 6
3rd May 2019
Gers Senior Mens Team left it very late to snatch a win against Cooley Kickhams on Friday night. Dara Hamill got the Gers started with the first point on the new pitch in the very 1st minute. Then dual player Feidhelm Joyce open his own tally with a nice point on the 3rd minute. Cooley levelled up the game with 2 points from frees. Then Dara Hamill got his 2nd point of the game which was followed by ex Cooley man Conor Rafferty with 9 minutes gone. But Cooley hit back straight with a point from play which was their last score in the 1st half. Feidhelm Joyce got the Gers next point from a free halfways through the 1st half. When Dara Hamill got the next 3 points, one of his right foot, to close out the 1st half, this left a 5 point distance between the teams. At halftime it was great to see some of our underage players on the field for our new bring a ball initiative.
Halftime Gers 0-8 Cooley 0-3
Cooley came out in the 2nd half all guns blazing within 10 minutes of the restart they were 1 point behind. The Gers had a great goal chance after a good move up the field from Sean Thornton and Gareth Neacy but Dara Hamill’s shot was superbly blocked. After this Cooley went straight up the field and equalised. The Peninsula outfit were filled with confidence now. Dara Hamill gave the Gers the lead again but Cooley responded with 2 points to take the lead with 5 remaining. Once again Dara Hamill levelled things up, however Cooley went straight up the field and took the lead again. Going into injury time and Cooley leading by 1, a long ball into the square ended up in the back of the Cooley net from the fist of Glen Trainor. This goal gave the Gers a 2 point lead. Cooley made things nervous for the home side by halving the lead deep into injury time but the Gers lead out for their 5th win of the campaign and to remain top of the league.
