Gers 2-21 St. Patricks 1-9

Division 1 Round 8

11th June 2019

A lovely Summer’s evening in Haggardstown  saw the Gers Senior men get back to winning ways in the league. Jim McEneaney got the Gers off to a flyer by scoring 1-1 in the first 5 minutes. Pats responded with a pointed free and one from play but Dara Hamill, who continued his impressive form, scored the next 2 points from play. This left it 1-3 to 2 points at the halfway point of the 1st half.  Another Hamill point extended the lead until a long ball into the square broke to a Pats man who buried the ball in the net. The sides exchanged 2 points each before half time in a feisty encounter with points coming from Stephen Reidy and Dara Hamill for the Gers.

Halftime score Gers 1-6 St. Patricks 1-4

One change at the beginning of the second half saw former Louth minor, Ben Mooney replace Stephen Reidy. Within the opening minute Pats made it a 1 point game but the Gers took control of the 2nd 30 minutes in superb style. Dara Hamill scored 3 unanswered points in the 1st 10 minutes to get the scoreboard going in the 2nd half. Pats responded with a free on the 11th minute to keep them within a score of the Haggardstown men. The two sides once again exchanged 2 points each in the next 10 minutes with scores coming from James Craven. The last 10  minutes of the game the Gers got the bit between their teeth and with impressive kickouts from Sean McEneaney got them on the front foot. In this period, Jim McEneaney scored 1-4, all from play, with one of his points a beauty on his left boot from way out right. McEneaney was in fine form throughout with the Gers defence make runs from all over. Dara Hamill added two more to his tally while youngsters Ben Mooney, Feidhelm Joyce and Shane Rogers finished off the scoring. Geraldines running out 15 point winners on the night.
