The Ladies Senior side got off to the best possible start to their Division One league campaign with a fifteen point win margin over neighbours St. Brides this moring. Ava Kieran was the goal hero with a goal each side of the half to set the home side to victory.
Rebecca Carr and Lauren McFaul got the home side off to the best possible start with each player scoring three points each with Fionnuala Cafferty also getting in on the act with a brace of points one of which was scored at a very close angle to open a commanding lead.
Ava Kieran then scored the Geraldines first goal of the game midway through the half as she latched onto a clever pass and despite being under pressure from the St. Brides keeper she cooly slotted it past the Brides custodian and into the bottom of the net. Lousie Corcoran grabbed a second goal for the home side before Lauren McFaul scored right on the whistle of half time to give the home side a commanding 2-13 to 0-02 lead at the break.
St Brides put up a spirited second-half performance getting a goal at the very beginning of the half and followed it with a brace of unanswered points before Rebecca Carr and Lauren McFaul continued where they left off in the first half with a series of points before Ava Kieran got her second goal of the game.
It was an excellent performance from the home side with Rebecca Carr, Lauren McFaul, Ava Kieran and Eilis Hand shining throughout the match however the game was marred by the injury to Holly Lambe Sally in the second half as she had to be stretchered off midway through the half. We wish her well in her recovery.
Next up for the Ladies is a trip to Drogheda where they face the Newtown Blues next Sunday at 11:00 am
