Our u16 girls had their first outing of the championship with an away fixture against Cooley. In what turned out to be a game of 2 halves, Cooley would run out comfortable winners in the end. A spirited and determined display saw the Gers match Cooley in an entertaining first half. Our defence repelled most Cooley attacks, the midfield covered a lot of ground and our forward line were very lively when the ball was played into them. The Gers enjoyed plenty of possession with both teams seeing a lot of the ball. A dubious penalty saw Cooley score a goal shortly before half time to leave the scores at the interval 1-05 to 1-02. The second half would start in the worst possible way, and Cooley would score 2-02 without reply within 5 minutes of the restart. This knocked the fight out of the girls and they would not recover. A harsh lesson but hopefully one the girls will learn from. Thanks to all who travelled in support of the team and to all the girls that togged out. Next up is a home fixture against Kilkerley on Wednesday.
