The boys u16 lose unexpectedly to an unfancied Ardee, St Marys team. The u16 boys could not capitalise on a great win last week against Glen Emmets, when they were beaten 2-7 to 2-10 by an unfancied Ardee, St Marys team. 4 or 5 key players were missing for the Gers which in the end proved to be to much of an obstacle to overcome. The boys got off to a great start and were leading 1—2 to 0-0 after 5 mins, through a goal from Joe Laverty and a point apiece from Mark Leavy and Aaron Spaight. That was as good as it got for the boys as Ardee then took command and scored 2-4 without reply. After two further wides from the boys, Ardee led 2-4 to 1-2 at the first water break. Things got worse for the Gers after the water break when Ardee rattled off 5 points without reply. Mark Leavy scored a point from a free kick just before half time, which left the score 2-9 to 1-3 in favour of the away team. After the break, and after a slight reshuffle the Gers started to play a lot better and scored 1-4 without reply with a goal from Sean Gartlan and points from Josh Spaight, Joe Laverty, Barra Duffy and Mark Leavy. The boys were starting to dominate and control possession. At the water break the scoreline looked a lot better for the boys. They had closed the gap to two points losing 2-9 to 2-7. However, despite the majority of the possession, the Gers failed to score after the water break. Two great goal chances slipped by and the boys missed two very scorable point chances which on another day they would have scored. Ardee scored a point with 5 mins remaining, which was their only point of the second half, but it was enough to see out the game. The boys final chance came, when a quickly taken free kick found Barra Duffy 15 yards out, but he just failed to score a goal in the top corner through a very crowded goal mouth. The lads showed great heart and fought very hard for the win in the second half, but they left themselves too much to do in the end. They now need to win all their remaining games to have a chance of qualifying for the league semi finals.
