2020 Halpenny Travel Senior Championship Group 1 - Round Three

Geraldines 0-10 vs St. Mochtas 0-04

The Geraldines Ladies secured another win in Group One of this year's Ladies Senior Football Championship thanks to a six-point win over St Mochtas in Páirc Mochta on Sunday morning.

The current Senior Champions led throughout the match with Rebecca Carr once again proving her worth to the side with her scoring prowess from free kicks.

With a slow start to proceedings under the wet weather conditions, Rebecca Carr and Lauren McFaul opened the scoring for the Geraldines before the Mochtas replied midway through the first half. The pick of the points in the first half was scored by Lauren McFaul when she latched onto a clever pass from Victoria Fee and she made no mistake slotting it over the bar despite the tightening angle.

Following the water break, the Gers’ extended their lead to seven points with scores from Rebecca Carr, Victoria Fee and a quick brace of points from Emma Gartlan that gave the side a commanding lead going into the break.

Lousie Corcoran got the opening point of the half for the Geraldines before Ciara O’Connor was denied a certain goal as she parried a long ball into the goal area towards the bottom right hand of the goal but the Mochta's keeper denied her at the last second with a block on the line.

It looked as if moments later that Lauren McFaul had got the Gers’ a goal however upon consultation the referee deemed the ball hadn’t crossed the line.

Lisa McCabe was sin-binned for a foul and the St Mochta’s began to use their numerical advantage but a fantastic block and clearance from Eilis Hand and Amy Dalton who combined to ensure the stoppage of a certain goal to block and clear the ball wide.

The Geraldines responded with Rebecca Carr slotting over the free-kick to ensure going into the final stages of the game they maintained a six-point lead.

A highly competitive game under difficult weather conditions as the side faces St Fechin’s next week in Haggardstown in Match Four of Group One.
