The Gers u16 Girls travelled to Drogheda on Wednesday evening to take on the Blues in their 3rd league championship match. Despite the wet and windy conditions and the absence of some key players the mood in the squad was very good. The girls played with the wind in the opening half and started brightly by bringing the game to their opponents and getting some early scores. Despite enjoying the lions share of possession the girls were very wasteful in front of goal and the Blues remained a threat throughout with some good breaks and would score a goal just before half time to keep them in the game. Half time score 2-7 to 1-1. Playing against the breeze in the second half the girls were determined to see the game out and applied themselves very well to out score the Blues by 2-04 to 0-03. With a couple of positional adjustments the girls were able to repel the expected second half Blues onslaught and were able to keep the scoreboard ticking over with some timely and excellent scores, and managed the game very well. Final score 4-11 to 1-04. Well done girls. Scorers on the night were Rachel Lynch 3-01, Faye Tinsley 1-01, Karina Corcoran 0-03, Méabh Fee 0-02, Emma Whately 0-01, Ailish Todd 0-01, Sophie Woulfe 0-01 and Alex Bewley 0-01. Next up we play the Pats on Wednesday.
