Geraldines 3-09 vs St. Fechins 0-02

The Geraldines Ladies have booked a Semi-Final place in their Senior Championship defence after a powerful second-half display to sweep past St. Fechins in Haggardstown. With a fierce crosswind and difficult playing conditions, the Ladies showed their experience and resolve to oversee a stubborn and resolute St. Fechins side.

The Geraldines feel behind early but responded well with Victoria Fee getting the side level before Emma Gartlan and Ciara O’Connor extended our lead. During this phase of play, Rebecca Carr had a certain goal-bound effort saved by the Fechin’s keeper. Abbi O’Connor added another point to give the home side a two-point lead but it was the second half that the Geraldines showed their true form.

Rebecca Carr and Louise Corcoran got the Geraldines got the side off the best possible start in the second half before Ciara O’Connor did brilliantly to evade her marker and the keeper to slot the ball home to get Geraldines first goal of the evening. Immediately after the water break, the Geraldines scored two vital scores with Lauren McFaul scoring an impressive point under pressure before moments later Emma Gartlan added a goal to extend the home sides lead with a powerful low effort. Ciara O’Connor added to her score tally with another fine point before substitute Grainne Finnegan added her first point of the game.

Just on the stroke of the full time, the referee gave a penalty to the Geraldines after a foul in the area and Rebecca Carr made no mistake dispatching it into the top left-hand corner.

This win secures a Semi-Final berth for the side and they face the Newtown Blues this Sunday in Drogheda, while our Junior Ladies team play St.Brides on Friday night in Haggardstown.
