The u16 girls would rue missed chances and a below par second half performance to run out narrow losers against the Pats in their 4th championship match played on Wednesday night. The girls played the better of the football in the first half running up 2-09, and pegged their opponents back for much of the opening 30 minutes. However, the girls would regret not taking their chances, especially goal chances, against a more clinical Pats team. Scores at halftime were 2-09 to 2-03. The Pats definitely upped the intensity in the second half and the Gers girls were unable to respond sufficiently, instead retreating deeper into their own half inviting the willing runs as their halftime lead slowly evaporated. A great run and goal midway through the second half by Ciara O’Brien failed to ignite the Gers girls and the Pats would out score them by 3-05 to 1-03 to win the match on a final score line of 5-08 to 3-12. Hopefully some valuable lessons learned by the girls; not least the importance of taking your chances and playing for the whole 60 minutes. Scorers were Méabh Fee 1-05, Alex Bewley 0-03, Rachel Lynch 1-0, Ciara O’Brien 1-0, Karina Corcoran 0-2, Faye Tinsley 0-01 and Emma Whately 0-01. Next up is an away match against the Kevin’s on Wednesday night.
