Geraldines 2-11 vs St. Fechins 0-10
The Geraldines Ladies will be in their second league final in two years following a seven-point victory over St. Fechins. In a game where the victory could have gone to either side, it was always going to be a goal that would tip the balance. In the end, two goals in the final quarter of the game secured the victory for the Geraldines.
Ciara O’Connor got us off to the perfect start with a point inside the first minute before the Fechins scored three points with no reply. Lauren McFaul scored a free before the Fechins once again responded with two more scores of their own. Lousie Corcoran, Lauren McFaul and Emma Gartlan scored three points without reply before the Fechins scored late in the half to give them a slender one-point lead at the break.
Once again the Fechins and the Geraldines trading points with Ciaran O’Connor getting a brace of scores to level the tie before Lauren McFaul’s two points got us into a slender lead going into the last fifteen minutes. The Geraldines got their first of two decisive goals from Rebecca Carr grabbing both goals and then adding a second with just five minutes to go. The scoring wasn’t finished with both Sandra Neary and Lauren McFaul getting a point each before the Fechins responded with their tenth point of the game.
A very high tempo, hard-working performance from the Geraldines as they overcame St. Fechins who during the course of the game was player for player a great matchup for the Geraldines.
The Geraldines advance to the final and hope to make a league and championship double to end the season off on a high.
