CHAIRMAN/SECRETARY ADDRESS 2020

2020 - A Very Unusual Year

As we say goodbye to 2020, I think it is fair to say that it was a very unusual & difficult year for each and every one of us. Its unlikely anyone could have foreseen the impact Covid-19 had in all our personal lives and in the life of our club. We can only look forward to 2021 with optimism and hopefully a return to normality in whatever form it may be.

We would like to pay tribute to our players, managers, coaches, trainers, backroom staff, umpires, linesmen, referee, Covid Officers, groundsmen, stewards, those who run our weekly Lotto and those who gave willingly of their time to clean up our premises and grounds to make your club a better place for everyone.

Congratulations to our Ladies team on retaining their Senior Championship, “It takes a good team to win a championship but a great one to retain it”. We must give huge credit to team manager Paula Lavin and her backroom team of Jim McEneaney, Pat Carr, Sadie McDermott & Rosarie O’Donoghue. They have brought great success to the club and they will be a hard act to follow.

Congratulations also to our Ladies Junior Championship winning team in 2020 and everyone involved.

We must thank our Senior Mens management team for all their hard work over the last couple of years. While we didn’t make the Senior semi-final in 2020 as we had in 2019 , we were top of the league when it came to a premature end. To Eamon Dunne, John Neary, Eamon McEneaney and Robbie Peelo , a huge Go raibh mile maith agaibh for your time and efforts in extraordinarily difficult times. We wish them the very best in the future.

We are very lucky to have the personnel within our Club, with drive, experience and knowledge and a can do attitude to deal with whatever hurdles arise. Our Covid supervisors played an excellent role at all age groups to ensure the safety of all our players.

Due to the restrictions the football season was relatively short and teams of all ages, male & female , maximised the time they had to train and play blitzes and competitive football. Many thanks to all those who helped ensure this happened. Thanks also to the CCC and Louth Minor board for their work in allowing this happen.

Our fundraising efforts were severely restricted but many thanks to those who continue to run our weekly lotto and helped with our GAAgglebox show at the end of the year. To our sponsors a huge thank you for your continued support in difficult economic times. We encourage all our members to support our sponsors and local business.

Our PR committee played a huge role in the last 12 months with numerous innovative projects on our social media sites. From live streaming of matches to Flashback Fridays and the Elves they were a ray of light in the dark days of lockdown.

We would like to sincerely thank the members of the club executive for the crucial role you played in the effective running of the club during 2020. A special thanks to the officers of the club and we would like to recognise the tremendous work & commitment they gave to us & to the club over the past year.

Finally, on behalf of the club we would like to extend our deepest sympathy to all who lost loved ones over the past year and wish anyone that is unwell in our community at the moment a speedy recovery.
