*Under 15 Boys Div 1 League – A night to forget at Pairc Naomh Fechin*

Following 2 impressive wins against Glyde and Division 1 newcomers Oliver Plunkett’s in warm up matches, the under 15 boys played their first Division 1 league game away to the Fechins on Monday evening. Unfortunately due to injuries and with no players from the Under 14 squad available to help out, we were unable to field a full team ending the game with only 12 players on the pitch. It was a game of 4 quarters with the first 15 minutes the most difficult as many of our lads adjusted to playing out of position. The game was effectively lost by the first water break but credit to the Gers boys who rallied in the second and third quarters and were much more competitive during this period taking some good scores and limiting the Fechins attacks. Down to 12 players for the last quarter, the lack of substitutes really began to tell and the final whistle was welcome relief for our boys in the end. Whilst it was hard to take many positives from the game, it was hugely encouraging to see the manner in which the lads stuck together in difficult circumstances. Extra credit goes to James Harrington who refused to come off the field of play despite playing his first game in many months with no training following an injury. Credit to a talented St Fechins team who played some superb football and took some great scores. Also credit to their management team for reducing their numbers to match ours despite being under no obligation to do so.
