A below par performance contributed to a disappointing start to the u16 championship with an opening away defeat to the Fechins on a score line of 5-07 to 3-12. The Gers started off brightly and enjoyed the lions share of possession but were very wasteful in front of the posts. Credit to the Fechins who dug in and fought for every ball and really made a game of it. The Gers girls just couldn’t get going, making uncharacteristic mistakes throughout the team and would pay the price. Indeed it looked as if an unlikely win had been salvaged when a great goal put the Gers 2 points ahead in the dying seconds. However in keeping with the pattern of the match, the Fechins delivered a sucker punch of their own with a goal to seal the victory. Thanks to all who came out and supported the girls.
