Tough Night for Gers Minor Boys vs Naomh Martin
The Gers Minor Boys suffered the second defeat of their Div 1A campaign against a stronger and more determined Naomh Martin In Haggardstown on Friday Night. Having lost one game each this was always going to be a key game for both teams to keep their knockout ambitions on-track.
The Gers made a bright start and led by 1-1 to 0-2 after 10 mins. However Naomh Martin finished the first quarter stronger scoring a fortuitous goal just before the water break to lead 2-3 to 1-1 at the water break. Whilst the second quarter had fewer scores Naomh Martin extended their lead by one point to lead 2-6 to 1-3 at half time.
The Gers responded well at the start of the second half scoring a point to reduce the deficit to 5 pts. A missed penalty followed by a missed goal opportunity from a quick 20m free proved to be the turning points. Naomh Martin regrouped and responded with 2 goals before the water break to extend their lead by a further 5 pts (4-8 to 1-6). Whilst the Gers scored 2 goals at the start of the final quarter, Naomh Martin finished strongly out scoring the Gers 3-4 to 2-2 in the final quarter to win on a score line of 7-12 to 3-8.
