Gers Minor Boys prove too strong for Baile Talun
The Gers Minor Boys got their second win in Div 1A against a very defensive Baile Talun outfit on Friday last.
Exchanges were pretty even in the first quarter with the Gers edging it to take a 0-3 to 0-2 lead into the water break.
The boys adopted a stronger running game in the second quarter to counteract the Baile Talun defense and this paid dividends with the Gers out scoring their opponents 1-5 to 0-1 during this period (the goal from Fionn Duffy the key score in the quarter).
The Gers switched off after half time allowing Baile Talun to outscore them 1-3 to 0-1 reducing the lead to 3 points going into the fourth quarter. A brilliant penalty save from Cian O’Donahue was critical to the Gers keeping their nose in front.
A strong final quarter saw the Gers score a further 1-4 without reply (the goal coming from Josh Spaight) leaving the final score 2-13 to 1-6.
The Gers played well once they got to grips with the Baile Talun defensive system.
The boys play their final game in Div 1A on Thursday against Na Piarsaigh / Sean o
Mahonys and will be looking to finish their league campaign with a win ahead of the championship in Sept.
