Gers Minor Boys finish off League campaign with a win….
Despite missing 6-7 players through injury the Gers Minor Boys finished off their Div 1A league campaign with a win against Na Piarsaigh / Sean O’Mahonys to keep their hopes of a semi-final place alive.
The Gers started the game strongest and with the aid of the wind had most of the possession in the first quarter. However the boys did not convert their superiority on to the score board and despite kicking 6 wides led by the bare minimum (0-3 to 0-2) at the water break.
Na Piarsaigh / Sean O’Mahonys came into it more in the second quarter and out scored the Gers 0-3 to 0-2 to leave things all square at half time (the Gers again guilty of 5-6 poor wides in this period).
The boys played better against the wind and whilst Na Piarsaigh / Sean O’Mahonys took the lead a Mark Leavy goal in the third quarter edged the Gers back in front 1-8 to 0-10.
The Gers finished strongly in the last quarter outscoring their opponents 0-4 to 0-1 to win on a final score line of 1-12 to 0-11. Some good interplay created 2-3 other goal opportunities that were well saved by the Na Piarsaigh / Sean O’Mahonys keeper.
Mark Leavy and Eoin Kenny were the key performers on the night contributing 1-9 between them.
Attention will now turn to getting a full squad fit and available for the championship team in 4-5 weeks time.
