Div3 Shield Final

Our Gers U-14 girls gave a great account of themselves on Monday night at the Joes. We knew it would be an uphill task playing a largely older and more physical Joes side. But the skill on show by the Gers shone throughout. Gers had earned the right to contest the Shield Final in beating St.Brides and Naomh Fionbarra. The play in those matches have shown just how far the team have developed as players during 2021. On the night the defensive unit of Aine, Kate, Anna, Meabh, Bianca, Megan, Blaithin, and Alice stood brave against a tough opponent. The midfield players of Sarah, Ava, Phoebe and Annie worked brilliantly getting tackles in and carrying the ball from 45 to 45. The forward line of Zoe, Meadhbh, Heather, Ruby, and Eimear can be very proud of their performance. Well done to Zoe who captained the team on the night. Whilst the game did not flow for us, we won the territory and possession stakes. I must applaud the Joes on their win, but the Gers will not let this deter them from getting even better next year. In the second half we kept the Joes to just two points. And for the last fifteen minutes we played with just three at the back as the girls pushed forward and never stopped pressing until the final whistle.

Thanks to Leah for giving the team a lift. We hope to have Leah and Edie back training soon. Best of luck to the Div 1 team next week, we'll be all cheering them on.
