💚CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY FOR U-14 GIRLS 🤍

Last night, in perfect conditions for football the Gers u-14 girls tasted success taking home the u-14 A championship. Heading to Darver the girls knew they had to put in a huge performance to overcome come a formidable opponent in Cooley. And boy did they deliver!!

From the off the girls threatened and inside two minutes Erin Finnegan finished to the net after a sublime run and pass from captain and player of the match Tara O’Connor. Gers continued to attack but were caught out when a high bouncing ball fell just under the crossbar and into the corner of the net. The girls needed to respond and HOW!!!!Two minutes later Erin had the ball in the net again after a clever hand pass from full forward Aoife Fanning. Clodagh Corcoran then scored a wonderful solo effort from distance to finish the quarter with a four point lead. The second quarter was nip and tuck and both sides traded points early on with Aoife Fanning slotting over under pressure from two defenders. Both sides hit a number of wides and Cooley to their credit were very unlucky to hit the post on three occasions. But once again the gers finished the quarter stronger, Julie Soraghan slaloming through the defence to secure another beautiful score. Half time score Gers 2-03. Cooley 1-01. In the third quarter Cooley started strongly reducing the defecit to 4 points early on. But the Gers defenders resisted the onslaught and eventually they gained a foothold once again. Our forwards ran hard at the Cooley defence and were rewarded with expertly taken free kicks from Tara and another fantastic point from Erin, our top scorer on the night. In the final quarter the Gers girls once again resisted a lot of Cooley pressure , restricting their opponents to two points. Another free kick from Tara and a magnificent Aoife Soroghan point from play ended the scoring. Que the wild celebrations at full time. A well deserved win. In the fullback line Ailish, Anna, Nia and Megan fought like lions for every ball, making timely interceptions and bravely passing through the hands out of defence. At half back Ruby , Dearbhla and Emmy closed down their dangerous opponents and set up attacks throughout. As a unit they were superb. In midfield Tara and Keelan dominated for large spells and sprayed the ball around playing heads up football. In the forward line Rachel, Molly, Clodagh, Erin Saidbh, the Fanning and Soroghan twins were immense. They contested every 50/50 ball and delivered scores when needed. Their ability to create space and play the right pass under pressure was a pleasure to watch. A special mention to our brave and courageous goalkeepers,Laura and Aoife Fanning who were once again outstanding. But this is a squad of players. A special mention to Ava, Sarah, Sarah, Anna, Bianca, Blaithin, Phoebe, Ruby, Alice, Eimear, Kate, Áine, Heather, Meabh, Meadhbh, Zoey, Edie and Leah who were all there passionately cheering on the team.

Finally congratulations to a very strong and talented Cooley team who were very gracious in defeat.

The future is bright. Na Gearaltaigh Abú 🇳🇬🇳🇬🎉🎉🎉🏆🏆🏆🏆
