Heavy Defeat for Gers Minor Boys in Championship Opener.

The Gers Minor Boys suffered a heavy defeat away to Stabannon / O’Connells / John Mitchell’s / St Kevin’s in their opening minor championship match last Thursday. The home team playing with the aid of a strong breeze got off to a flying start, scoring a goal in the first minute followed by another goal in the fifth minute to open up a commanding lead. The Gers rallied after this but could not breakdown their well organised defense (coughing up possession easily when in good positions). The home team continued to add to their scoreline throughout the first half to lead 2-10 to 0-1 at half time. Despite playing with the wind in the second half the Gers could only add another point in the third quarter. The home team continued to dominate the middle third and added a further 3-6 in the second half to run out easy winners on a score line of 5-16 to 0-2. With only one team going through to the semi-final stage, the result effectively ends the Gers interest in this years minor championship. The boys play their second and final group match against Glen Emmets this Thursday. They will be looking to finish with a victory and regain some pride following last weeks defeat.
