The Geraldines Ladies booked their place in the Louth Senior Football Championship Semi-Final following a comprehensive 5-08 vs 0-06 victory over Cooley Kickhams. In what was a fantastic victory for the ladies against a side they have had many battles with down the years in both the league and championship.
The Ladies got off to the perfect start when Zoe McGahon got in behind the Cooley defence to open the scoring with a goal inside the opening minute. Cooley responded with three unanswered points before Rebecca Carr scored the Geraldines second goal.
Kellie O’Donoghue and Meabh Fee both scored a point each before Rebecca Carr scored four points with Sandra Lynch also adding her name to the scoresheet.
\Cooley opened the scoring in the second half before Emma Gartland scored a point and then Sandra Lynch scored a goal to add to her point scored in the first half hitting a long-range free-kick which crept under the bar and into the net. The Geraldines were to score another goal following an excellent forward run from second-half substitute Victoria Fee who spotted the run of Meabh Fee and then sent the ball into the forwards' path who hit a low effort to score the Geraldines fourth goal.
Cooley responded to that score with a point before Victoria Fee replied by scoring a point for the Geraldines before the home side got their fifth goal with Fionnuala Cafferty slotting home from an initial rebound. Cooley scored the last score of the game in what was a highly contested match.
This was an outstanding performance for the ladies with the home side defence coming in for particular praise but the work rate of all of the players is not to be underestimated.
The side faces St. Pats this Sunday in Haggardstown with a place in the Louth Senior Championship Final up for grabs.
