The U12 boys had an exciting semi-final match against St. Fechins under the lights at Darver on Monday evening. It was a great evening for football and the large crowd in attendance were kept entertained throughout with some great football from both sides. St. Fechins recorded the first 2 scores of the first half, but once the Gers settled into their passing game, they replied with points from Joe Lynch, Sean Spaight, Roan Norton, and Hugo Nolan. A wonderfully stuck goal from Joe Lynch meant the Gers led by 4 coming into half time. The second half was also evenly contested, with nice passages of passing and teamwork with nicely taken scores, including a further 3 points from Joe Lynch to end the evening with a very impressive 1-6. Hugo Nolan also added a point, and an opportunistic goal from Rónán Duggan kept the score board ticking over. The game was in the balance to the very end, and as the Gers lads missed some good opportunities at one end as the Fechins team finished strongly. There were chances at both ends, with some great defensive work including spectacular block from Daniel Hanna which stopped a certain goal. It was thrilling final few minutes as the Gers prevailed to set up a derby-decider with local rivals St. Joesphs in the same venue on Friday night. This is a wonderful achievement for this young squad and all of the 29 lads who togged out on the night have contributed to getting Gers to the final.

Just when things couldn’t get much better, the boys were treated to a post-match analysis with the legendary Mícheál Ó Muircheartaigh, athair le Eamonn, and he kindly posed for some memorable photos with the team and mentors!!
