Phenomenal U13s

On a bright Sunday morning in Cooley we faced an unbeaten team with a sound scoring record. Our defence were superb. The half-back trio of Sarah/Ailish/Megan won every battle in the first half, they were greatly supported by Kate/Anna/Bianca in the full back line and Leah in goals. At half-time we lead 1-0 to 0-01 despite having less possession. We had lost narrowly to Cooley 0-06 to 0-02 the last time the sides met, but there was to be no repeat this time round. From the start of the second half the midfield and half-forwards of Laura, Aoife S, Julie, Ava and Aoife F, took the game by the scruff of the neck and controlled the first 15 minutes to build up a healthy lead. Cooley are a very tough side that you cannot beat easily and they got on top at the end of the game to reply with 3 points. But the overall skill and workrate of the Gers girls paid dividends. We ended up winning 2-04 to 0-04. It is fifth successive win for the girls, who are really gelling as a team. We know there will be tough games to follow but it was a great result to get under our belts. The forward line was lead by Phoebe and ably supported by Heather, Eimear, Meadhbh, Aoife and Naomi. On the day the scorers were Aoife S 1-01, Laura 1-00, Aoife F, Julie, and Phoebe 1point each. It was a great start to a wonderful Sunday and immediately after the game the girls scooted over to Tallanstown to cheer on the Seniors in securing their 3rd successive championship.
