Our U15 girls played Cooley on Sunday morning in the Championship semi final in Cooley on a cold ,wintry morning. The Cooley girls have been running up huge scores against all opposition this year. The girls suffered a very heavy defeat to them in the league game 3 weeks ago so the girls knew they were up against it. The task was made more difficult with players in some key positions unavailable to play.

It was clear from the start of the game that the Geraldines girls were not going to capitulate and the peninsula side realised that they would have to battle hard for any scores on the day. The girls put in a gritty display, challenging for every ball and closing down the opposition at every opportunity. Cooley registered a goal and 4 points and the Gers responded with 2 points in a keenly contested opening quarter.

Cooley continued to press in the 2nd quarter and were rewarded with some well taken goals to extend their lead at half time with no further scores from the Geraldines.

Despite trailing on the scoreboard the Geraldines maintained their work rate throughout the 2nd half and were rewarded with a goal and a point in the 3rd quarter with some lovely football.

Cooley finished the game well ahead on the scoreboard but our girls showed tremendous resilience and determination throughout the game and competed hard right to the final whistle and everyone in the club can be very proud of them.

This concludes a long season for the girls. The u15 squad came together after the u14 and u16 competitions finished and have played a total of 11 games which has afforded a huge amount of game time to all the girls and will without doubt aid in their development as footballers and will serve as a great preparation for coming back together for next year’s U16 competitions.
