2022 Feile Report by Colm Gartlan

The Gers Boys U15 took part in the Division 1 Feile competition in Darver yesterday. The boys were placed in the group with three teams which meant they only had two group games.

The first game was against our neighbours the Joes. The boys had a great start with an early goal from Cillian Lynch. However, the Joes finished the first half stronger and aided by some confusion in the Gers defense took a 2-0 to 1-0 advantage in at half time. The boys played very well in the second half and scored four unanswered points (two from Jamie Soraghan and one each from David Clune and Cillian Lynch) to take a deserved lead going into the last minute. The Joes were awarded a penalty with seconds remaining which they converted to win the match 3-0 to 1-4. The boys were very unlucky as they were probably the better team on the balance of play but did not take their chances.

The boys played Ardee in their second group game. Ardee were a step up from the Joes and despite playing with the wind the Gers trailed by 2-2 to no score at the break. The Boys rallied well in the second half but Ardee’s superior teamwork and work rate saw them through on a final score of 2-4 to 0-2 (the Gers scores coming from Cian Spaight and Ralph Tinsley). Ardee went on to win the competition.

We had 24 boys in attendance including a number of U14s and managed to give everyone game-time over the two games. Attention now returns to the Division 1 league and our next game against St Pats.
