An impressive O'Connell's/Lannleire/Stabbannon team defeated our u15 boys in Dunleer last week. The Gers were heavily depleted with a lot of players injured or away on holidays.
The strength of the overall numbers available of u14-u15 players was in evidence with the Gers still having a match day panel of 18 thanks to some U14 players who togged out.
The home side had 13 players so the game was 13 a side and the fast and powerful running home side took advantage of the extra space racking up some impressive scores to give them a commanding lead.
The Geraldines steadied the ship with a much improved performance in the 2nd half and the coaches were especially impressed how many of the u14 players played on their debuts in division 1.
The final score was a comprehensive win for the home side but it was great to see the resilience, effort and attitude of all the boys despite trailing in the scoreboard and it was a great opportunity for lads to stake a claim for places with so many players missing. All boys got good game time and all the subs made positive contributions.
The team had already qualified for the league semi final which is away to St Mary's Ardee on Monday at 7pm.
The lads have been training hard and showed great attitude in recent weeks and great to see them turning out in large numbers as we prepare for the final stages of the league and the upcoming championship.
