Our u15 boys, sponsored by @sportsdirectireland played table toppers, Ardee, in the @ louthgaa div 1 league semi final last Monday in Ardee.
The Gers made a great start to the game, dominating midfield and reeled of three points in the early exchanges as they put huge pressure on the Ardee defence. A goal and further scores from accurate frees and play saw the Gers lead by 6. The Gers probably should have made more of this early period of dominance and would have led by more had the ball been moved on quicker rather than overcarrying the ball. St Mary's struck back with 2 goals and added a few points as they kept the Gers in their own half by pressing up the field for the remainder of the half. At half time Ardee led by 4 points thanks to another goal.
Ardee continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over with some well taken points in the second half to build up a good lead. The Geraldines showed great resilience to keep coming back and were rewarded with 2 further goals.
Good luck to a very impressive St Mary's team in the league final.
It was a great game for the boys to see that when they played as a team they matched the top team in the county and showed the areas that we need to improve on as we prepare for the championship.
There were some great individual performances and lots of positives and lessons to be taken from the game. The u14 lads who have been working hard in training came into the team and all performed really well and there will be huge competition for places in training over the coming weeks.
Special mention to Owen McGahon who had to play in goal due to our 2 regular goalies being unavailable. He showed great character to come in and play this pivotal position 👏.
