The u13 boys kicked off their championship campaign with a visit to Ardee on Wednesday evening.
The home side started brightly & raced into the lead scoring 2 pts before Roan Carroll got the Gers on the board. A couple more Mary’s points followed before a Rónán Duggan point & a Hugo Nolan goal swung the game the Gers favour.
The Haggardstown lads kicked on from there & a purple patch in the second quarter saw them register 1:5 in a strong finish to the half with Joe Lynch 0:2, James Scanlon 0:1, Roan Norton 0:2 & Sean Spaight 1:0 all getting in on the act.
St. Marys responded with a couple of scores to leave the Gers lads up by 2 goals at half time.
The sides traded scores at the start of the second half, with a goal by the excellent Niall Coleman the pick of the bunch. When James Scanlon also raised the green flag moments later, the contest was effectively over. The home side rallied with a few unanswered points before Hugo Nolan (0:2), Roan Norton (0:1) & Sean Spaight (0:2) put the icing on the cake to finish the match on a score-line of 4:13 to 0:14.
This was very much a team effort, led from the back by Jacub Perkowski who made some fine saves to ensure he kept a clean sheet. The full back line of Sam Murphy, Conall Gaughran, Jake Shelly & Rónán Duggan tackled hard & did not give any easy opportunities.
At half back Sean Garvey, Daniel Hanna & Jack Kavanagh worked & tackled extremely hard & had a very solid evening.
In midfield, Niall Coleman & Sean Spaight dominated possession & gave the Gers a platform for victory.
At half forward, Hugo Nolan had a great game, as did Joe Lynch & James Scanlon with some great interplay at times.
At full forward Roan Norton made numerous runs & had a fine evening, as did Rory Power & Cillian McKevitt, Sean Murphy and Roan Carroll who put in a great shift in his first game back from injury.
It was a satisfactory performance-all the lads went home with smiles on their faces.
Comhghairdeas ar an iarracht mór ó na buachaillí go léir!!
GRMA St. Mary’s for hosting.
