Sun goes down on u13 campaign

The u13 boys hosted Glen Emmets in an U13 championship 1/4 final at home on Wednesday.

First half both teams contested for every ball. The visitors raced into an early lead. By contrast we had some good chances, but a combination of wayward shooting/poor shot selection meant they did not register the scores that play deserved.

This was the pattern for the first half, a Joe Lynch pt was all the Gers had to show for their effort & they went in trailing by 1:6-0:1.

The second period was a closer affair, an early Rónán Duggan goal meant a comeback might be on the cards. The lads fought for every ball to contain the visitors, as GE responded with some points of their own.

Gers then registered another goal, as Roan Norton raised the green flag & then had some more good chances which on another night would have been taken, but unfortunately went wide.

Toward the end of the period Aaron O’Donoghue landed a point to bring the sides even closer, but the visitors held on for a deserved victory.

Whilst it was not a performance up to their usual levels, the effort by all the lads was again evident.

Jacub Perkowski had a solid match between the sticks & did not do much wrong.

The full back line of Daniel Hanna, Rónán Duggan & Sam Murphy (who replaced the injured Oliver Kerley early in the first half) battled from beginning to end.

At half back, Conall Gaughran, Jack Kavanagh & Danny de Lasa ran from end to end & got on alot of ball.

In midfield, Aaron O’Donoghue & Niall Coleman tried hard in difficult circumstances.

At half forward Hugo Nolan, Joe Lynch & Sean Garvey were industrious & kept playing until the final whistle.

At full forward, Roan Carroll, Roan Norton & Jakes Shelley made numerous runs to lose their men & often the ball did not make it their way but they kept trying.

Rory Power & Cillian McKevitt were introduced towards the end to bring on some fresh legs, but it was an uphill task at this stage.

GRMA Glen Emmets for a sporting encounter agus ádh mór for the rest of the tournament.

As the proverb says, “Níl íseal ná uasal ach thíos seal agus thuas seal.”

There is neither low not high but down for a while and up for a while!!
