GERALDINES U-16 GIRLS WIN ARMAGH SHANE O’NEILLS, TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to our U16 girls on winning the Shane O’Neills 7a side tournament last Sunday.
With a squad of 12 players the girls were into their stride very quickly beating Bosco in their first game & O’Hanlons in the second. The girls eased past Middleton in the third game & overcame a physically strong & skilful Wolfe Tonnes team in a tight encounter to make it 4 matches unbeaten. In their final group game, the girls defeated the home club to march into the semi finals as group winners.
At this stage the Gers old foes, Cooley Kickhams were also making their way into the semi finals. Thankfully we avoided each other in the draw. Our girls gave an exhibition of slick passing & accurate shooting in the semi final & met the Wolfe Tonnes once again in the final. In a tight first half, the girls were once again defensively sound only conceding one score. But at the other end the girls were not as sharp. Once again though they dug deep & gave an exhibition of shooting in the second half to win by a 10pt margin. Congratulations to the squad of players & huge thanks to Shane O’Neills on hosting a very well organised tournament where the children were looked after from the first whistle.
Ava (Captain & Player of the Tournament was presented with the winning Trophy from Armagh legend, Aimee Mackin.
Well done to Ruby Nolan, Dearbhla Mc Kenna, Cora English, Sophie McArdle, Leah Hughes, Nessa Norton Quigley, Clodagh Corcoran, Tara O’Connor, Rachel Cunnife, Erin Finnegan Amy Craven and our “sweeper keeper”and Player of the Tournament, Ava Connor. 👏
