The u12s had their first match of the league against St.Mary's, Ardee on Friday, April 7. With all training to date on the "dry sod" of DKIT this venture onto the outdoor pitch was a challenge to which all the boys responded very well. Playing against a strong breeze in the first half the defence, well marshalled by Aidan Soraghan, Seanan O Conner, Ben King, Danny Rochford and Niall Fennessey fought off a sustained heavy attack by St. Mary's. The solid work throughout of midfield pairing Darragh O Neill and Tom Johnston often finding the accurate kickout of goalkeeper, Alex Gray, kept the Gers just one point behind at half time. Logan McGahon and Richard Whately got crucial scores to keep the Gers in the game.
Though the Gers had the favour of the 2nd half breeze it looked as if St. Mary's were the advantaged team moving ahead early in the half by 5 points.
Then the Gers cut loose! Harry Smith was the target man with some great scores and making impact with fresh energy were subs Carl Laverty, Aaron Hoey, Zach Healy, Rayan Akhal. A constant threat and full of energy throughout were James Durnin and Oisin McKevitt. Scoring 4 goals and 5 points in the 2nd half the Gers ran out winners 4-11 to 3-6.
Encouraging start for the lads to build on for the season ahead.
