Brilliant displays bring Geraldines u15 boys to Louth Division 1 Feile final
A series of brilliant displays by our Gers u15 boys nearly ended in winning the Louth Feile cup but we came up short in an entertaining and competitive final v Baile Talún on Saturday in Darver.
Gers played the first of 3 group games against last years league champions St Patrick’s. We took the game to the opposition from the 1st whistle playing fast moving football and feeding the forwards with quality ball. High quality marksman Sean McKenna led the scoring threat as he did all day but dominant midfield play by captain Finn Madine and Aaron O’Donoghue gave us the platform. Joe Lynch had an impressive showing at wing forward. Final score Gers 1-5 Pats 0-5
Our second game against St Fechins saw us take a lead of 4 pts into half time but Fechins fought back and we were thankful to a great save from ever reliable Jakub Perkowski and a goal line clearance from Thomas Quinn Stuttard. Gers 1-5 Fechins 1-4.
This meant we had qualified for the semi final with a game to spare. Baile Talún had the better of the 1st half with the wind but our boys dominated the 2nd half and Maciek Dobros scored a quality goal but scores were hard to come by as we defended resolutely led by vice captain Jack Greene , Mal Madine, Sean Costigan and Connor Ward. Conall Bowden, Eoghan Traynor and Conor Whitmarsh showed well in the forwards.
Final Score Baile Talún 1-4 Gers 1-0
The semi final saw Gers lads give their best performance of the day beating the u13 championship winners of 2 years ago. Owen McGahon and Eoghan Sweeney scored 2 goals of high quality with their non dominant feet but it was the teamwork of the Gers lads that led us to victory typified by the impressive Aswanth Sivaraman at wing back and Ronan Duggan at midfield that led us to victory.
Final Score Gers 3-4 Glen Emmets 0-4
The final saw a game of 2 halves as Baile Talún built up a 6 point half time lead with the wind but led by the hugely impressive Noah Lauaki at full back the Gers roared into the game and but for a MoTM display from the Baile Talún goalkeeper looked like winners. Aodhan Gibbons married intelligent defensive work with a great finish to score a fine goal. Ronan Traynor was his usual tight marking self at corner back.
All the squad including our champion boxer Oscar Conway who we were delighted to welcome back to the squad after his boxing exploits helped bring us to where we were peppering the Baile Talún goal but ran out of time as our opponents ran out victors. Best of luck to Baile Talún in the National Feile, they were sporting victors. Our Gers lad now look forward to the u15 league which next starts next week.
