Naomh Mairtin vs Geraldines U17 League Semi-Final
It wasn’t to be for the Gers minors in an evenly matched encounter against Naomh Mairtin on Monday evening in the league Semi-Final. The Mairtins were the slicker side in the first half leading 0-08 to 0-06 going in at the break with the Gers accumulating seven wides. Cian Spaight and Jamie Soraghan kept the Gers in touch along with some good defending by fullback Shea Neary.
Despite being down to 14 men for the first 10 minutes of the second half the Gers lads started with real momentum engineering some excellent scores.
The pick of them was an attack down the right-hand side in which Jamie Soraghan laid it off to the cutting Shayne Soraghan who was hauled down for a penalty which Gers MOTM calmly dispatched on the night Cian Spaight. The Gers kicked another two points by Cillian Lynch and Jamie Soraghan, however, the Mairtins responded with a well-taken goal to beat the impressive Cian O Donoghue.
After both teams traded frees the Gers brought it back to a point after an excellent Cian Farrell run who was fouled for a free. Unfortunately, they were unable to secure an equalising point despite their best efforts.
Next up for the side is Naomh Mairtin and Cooley in the Championship Group stages in a few weeks' time
